Sick of climate change? Call in sick, skip school and come to the International Day of Action for Climate Justice!
Mon. Nov. 30, 2009, 11:30am at Justin Herman Plaza, SF
What?
Come with your brooms, mops and buckets, dressed in your best clean-up costume for a parade down Market St. to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office. Bring a rag with a message on it for Obama and the climate negotiating team telling them that the US needs to take responsibility for its fair share of the mess!
Why?
We have arrived at a critical moment in the future of the planet. On December 7, 2009, every country in the world will sit down in Copenhagen for the final round of International Climate Change Negotiations. We need an agreement that will work, now. We may not get another chance.
So far the US has been holding up progress, taking us down the road to disaster by refusing to take responsibility for its actions. The US has emitted a quarter of the world’s total greenhouse gases, so we need to agree to take the lion’s share of emissions reductions, and provide funding to help developing countries meet their targets. Not only is it the right thing to do, it’s the only agreement that can get us out of this mess.
When and where:
Join thousands of people worldwide and the Mobilization for Climate Justice West on Monday Nov 30 for the International Day of Action for Climate Justice. In San Francisco there will be a rally and march, as well as peaceful civil disobedience at several corporate locations.
The Kids Parade will gather for the rally at 11:30, at Justin Herman Plaza (near the trees/grassy area) then separate from the rest of the group and parade along the sidewalk down Market St. We will have climate justice education for kids of all ages, a marching band, signs and rags to write messages on.
